If successful, you’ll be part of a dynamic and passionate team in Somalia and Nairobi that works together to improve the health, nutrition, water, sanitation, hygiene, and basic education of Somali girls and boys and protect them from violence, exploitation and abuse.The successful candidate will be offered a Fixed Term Appointment for one year. Further extensions will be based on organizational needs, availability of funds and satisfactory performance.Purpose of the Post:Under the supervision of Education Specialist, the incumbent will contribute to planning, administration, implementation and evaluation of Non Formal Education/project activities, data analysis and progress reporting for North East Zone of Somalia.Major duties and responsibilities:• Provide inputs to development of the Non Formal Education Sector as a whole and annual Plan of actions, workplans and related documents in particular. Undertake ongoing field visits to Non Formal Education/Alternative pathways programs for the purpose of technical guidance, monitoring, supervision, orientation to project activities and local conditions and strengthening of classroom supervision. Prepare routine reports on results of visits and project progress.• Collect and assemble data and background with regard to Non Formal Education projects and provide updated information on programme/project financial and administrative status for analysis and report purposes. Analyze programme/project status and recommend appropriate adjustments. Prepare tables, graphs or other statistical data for technical review/monitoring purposes.• Monitor the flow of supply and non-supply assistance to local (zonal) authorities and other partners including community managed schools. Draft supply and financial documentation. Collect and record information on supply/non-supply inventory, distribution and utilization.• Investigate queries regarding authorization, delivery or payments and follow up with Finance, Administrative, Supply and Programme staff on processing of payments, advances to governments and liquidation of accounts. Ensure that activities are in accordance with plans of action.• Provide technical advice and supervision to counterpart local authorities and other national intersectoral partners on project details particularly those related to quality of training of education functionaries and classroom teacher/learning processes. Recommend courses of action to supervisor.• Undertake arrangements for visits to project sites for government, other international/ National partners and Media/Donors which include providing information and briefing on project activities and status.• Draft programme budgets ensuring accuracy and appropriateness of coding in accordance with UNICEF systems. Draft and issue updated status reports.• Draft sections of donor, annual and other reports as required. Qualifications and experience:
• University Degree in related technical field. (Candidates who may not have relevant academic qualifications but possess strong relevant experience will also be considered). • Five years of relevant experience with one (1) year progressively responsible experience in programme design, administration, monitoring and evaluation in related field. • Fluency in English and Somali. • Knowledge of local working language of the duty station an asset. • Communication, analytical and training skills. • Good knowledge of computer management and applications. • Ability to work in an international and multicultural environment.Interested and qualified candidates should send their applications with updated UN Personal History Form (P.11), updated CV, copies of academic certificates to one of the following addresses.
